Nike snowboarding launch Gigi Rüff Zoom Kaiju QS

Innsbruck, Austria , 11/11/2010 by Tom Kingsnorth
This is Nike snowboarding’s first season in Europe and to make a good first impression, an out of the ordinary product launch was in order. Cue the official product launch of Gigi Ruff’s first Nike pro model boot the Gigi Rüf Nike Zoom Kaiju QS.

Gigi Rüf Nike Zoom Kaiju QS is inspired by Gigi’s love of his local football team Bregenz Fc and the graphics are based on the Nike’s Mercurial Vapor football boot. So what would be more fitting than a 5 a side football tournament for media types and retailers to battle it out against the European Nike team members.

The Gigi Ruff football pitch

On a makeshift pitch out side Innsbrucks Double X store, teams were divided into media, retailers and Nike team “FC Gigi”
Fc Gigi was made up of ,Gigi Ruff , Nike 6.0 team manager Jon Weaver ,Brian Craighill, and finally Nicolas Müller.
Nico Muller used to play for Switzerland up to the age of 14 and this skill combined with the ability of Gigi proved enough to lead the Nike team to victory.

The Hintertux glacier provided the ideal testing ground for the 50+ crew to test out the current Nike snowboarding collection and of course the new boot from Gigi.
The Gigi Rüf Nike Zoom Kaiju QS has more technology that you gave wave a stick at. Full internal “flywire” ankle harness that insures your heels wont have any lift, full length phylon midsole with embedded zoom air which cushion your soles on landings and also allow the midsole to flex, giving you more board feel. The head boot designer gave this a lot of talk at the presentation and to be honest I was dubious. When riding though the benefits were obvious. This sole moves more freely while keeping it’s length-wise stiffness. This gives the rider much more control, imagine skateboarding in dr. Martins and then using a skate shoe with thin sole. This is the feeling this generates.

Other technology includes, outlast temperature controlled liner which stores the warmth for when you don’t need it and releases it when you do, speed lacing system which allows you to leave the bottom laces looser than the top lacing. The liner is reheat moldable so if they don’t fit quite right you can change it. I could go on for weeks, the fact is Nike have created one of the most technologically advanced boots ever made. Out of 50 industry heads not one complained that they didn’t fit, I believe that to be a first. It was clear talking to the designers that they are only interested in making premium products and this boot is fine example of this. Did I mention the white changes colour to pink in the sunlight? Added bonus for your buck.

The boot will be available at selected Nike Snowboarding dealers worldwide from November 19, 2010. X Double will have an early release of the boot on November 5.
